“WOW! So much has changed in 11 years. And what a wonderful place you have!! Thankyou for a fab time, wonderful meals, new friendships and lovely gite. You have all the makings of a wonderful family holiday. Sorry for all the late nights Stu!! See you next year! XX” The Bonfields, Shropshire.
Héron was formerly the farm stables, or ‘écurie’. It is fully wheelchair-disabled friendly, with level ground floor access, and specially widened entrance and interior doors. Wheelchair access within the gite is made easier where necessary with the use of very shallow ramps. Thoughtful touches such as accessibly positioned plug sockets and ‘drive under’ wash basins have proved popular with our many wheelchair-disabled guests.

New for 2013, we’ve worked very hard to bring you more of the hidden character of Héron by exposing the beautiful stone wall hidden for so long. We also knocked down part of the dividing wall between the lounge/diner and the kitchen. Now it’s even more family-friendly, and so much lighter too!
As well as providing superb wheelchair-friendly facilities, Héron is also a fantastic family gite, consisting of two bedrooms, a separate kitchen, separate bathroom and a huge lounge/diner. A private patio to the front of this spacious holiday home provides a focal point for your evenings under the setting sun, whiling away the time with the BBQ, glass of chilled local wine in one hand, food tongs in the other! To the side of the property is a sunny, flower-filled hideaway, with original floor tiles, leading to the decked area and the rear lawn, where it’s safe to watch the kids play, or just relax on the lounger with a good book! All outdoor furniture is provided, including table, chairs, BBQ, loungers and cushions etc.
“I’m so glad I’ve seen it for real at last – it lived up to the photographs and the warm sunny days ‘iced the cake!’ Hope all goes well in the future – thanks for your hospitality.” Muriel.
The well-appointed kitchen, combining modern units and fixtures with the traditional beams and ‘feel’ make this kitchen a pleasure to work in. Hopefully though, the addition of the dishwasher, microwave and washing machine means you’ll have more time to spend outside the kitchen than in it! Although a French kitchen is the ‘hub’ of the home, and we hope you’ll enjoy creating many culinary masterpieces here, don’t forget to try out your bbq skills too! Especially after a hard day spent gathering delicious fresh produce from the many local markets!
All lets of a week or more include our welcome pack of fresh local goodies, including a chilled carafe of wine to enjoy upon your arrival!
The large double bedroom in Héron is light, airy and spacious. Wall mounted electric heaters ensure you’re toasty in cooler months too! For those traveling with very small children, there’s plenty of space here for a travel cot, (provided FOC) or even a ‘put-u-up’ bed! If you’d love to holiday with friends, we can change the kid’s room around to make a very cosy, comfortable adult room too.
With the shutters closed, it really IS dark, and little ones can be left undisturbed while mum & dad enjoy breakfast (or supper) on one of the patios in peace!
To cater for the new ‘average’ sized family, we’ve installed a lovely wooden bunk-bed as well as a single! As you can see, there’s plenty of room here for the kids to play, and spread out a little. There’s a wardrobe just out of view for all of their clothes too. The bedroom is heated in colder months by the wall-mounted electric radiator so you can rest assured of a warm and cosy bedroom for your children! Being all about families here at Le Chant, we offer free of charge things like safety gates, cots (with bedding), buggy, toys, toilet training stuff(!) and lots more. We’ve had kids so we know what it’s like! Leave your worries behind when you holiday with us!
If you’re holidaying with another couple, we can sometimes change the beds around to provide two double bedrooms. See the images above. Please note that we do require advance warning of your bedding requirements, and the re-arranging of rooms is not always possible due to other gite demands.
“Wonderful holiday which we look forward to repeating next year. Thanks for your great hospitality.” Nick, Kate & Joshua Dalton
The spacious bathroom caters for all the family, with bath/wc and basin as well as a shower over the deep bath. There’s an electrically heated towel rail which gives off just the right amount of warmth to take off the chill in winter, or to ensure a lovely warm towel when you need it!
Note. As with all our gites, we supply all cleaning materials, as well as some toilet rolls to get you started etc. We ask that the gites are left clean at the end of your stay, but we don’t expect you to spend your last day preparing it for the next guests, that’s our job!
“The peace & quiet. The countryside. The gite. Stu & Syb. Bracken. The food. The wine. FAB!!!” Ron & Lynda Wilkinson
In 2010, we created a divine hideaway garden for Héron. Take breakfast in the ‘petit coin du soleil’, or relax on the decking in the evening. Watching the sunlight dance on the trees in the fields is magical. Seeing the birds in flight, and the deer grazing will make your holiday a memorable one! We hope you like what we’ve created, we certainly do.
If Héron doesn’t quite suit your needs, or you’d like more space for one or more families to enjoy a holiday together, why not have a look at Hibou too? With a lockable connecting gate, you can enjoy a massive garden surrounding all four sides of the building!
Why not winter in la Loire?
Héron’s the perfect place to spend your christmas holiday! Imagine putting your feet up in front of the log fire, glass of chilled local ‘champagne’ in your hand after a stroll along the lane, perhaps catching a glimpse of the local wildlife? Why not let us organise your christmas hamper, full of both local and home-made goodies? Even though we still like our Christmas turkey, we also like a change so why not sample wild boar, or even deer? We’ll bake mince pies, and even a home-made Christmas cake (if you book in time for Syb to make one!) So, let us take the stress out of your Christmas, and make it one to remember, here at Le Chant d’Oiseau!
“We knew it was going to be good when Stu met us at 1am after getting lost! What a great place for a winter retreat, gite was lovely, cosy & homely. Stu, Syb & family were fantastic. It was like visiting friends. Thanks for a lovely 4 days. ” Irene & Dave Jones.
Le Chant d’Oiseau is the place to rest awhile, recharge your batteries and unwind. Hope to see you soon!
